Flanagan and Crawford Seeking New Heights
Although many fans had wished to see the fight between Terry ‘Turbo’ Flanagan and Jorge Linares come to fruition; talks apparently fell through. That in mind, Flanagan decided to vacate his WBO belt and will move up in weight to the 140-pound division. No doubt he’ll be seeking another world title in that weight class.
Terence Crawford, the former undisputed 140-pound champion also decided to drop his crown and intends to move up to welterweight. A showdown with Jeff Horn awaits him as he is now the mandatory challenger.
The move by both to come on the same day makes it perfect timing for each to gain recognition in a different weight class.
Starting with Terence Crawford; the welterweight division is booming right now and adding him to the plethora of athletes is only going to make it much more exciting. Crawford against Horn is a great fight and a considerable opponent with the move up in weight, I personally believe he’ll settle in nicely.
He wants to become a triple champion and pulling that off in the current 147 class would be an incredible achievement. The likes of Keith Thurman, Errol Spence Jr, Kell Brook, Danny Garcia, Manny Pacquiao… The list goes on, they all await his highly anticipated debut at welterweight.

Terry Flanagan, the former WBO lightweight champion has moved up to a division which is now open and free, thanks to Bud. Who will he challenge in this division for a now-vacant title? Maurice Hooker, Antonio Orozco and Jack Catterall are in line for the WBO belt and it is likely he will be facing one of them for his second world title. The division formerly ruled by Crawford gives Flanagan a chance to seize it for himself. The potential of a great domestic dust-up with either Josh Taylor, Jack Catterall or Ohara Davies is also there.
Both will be welcomed into their new weight classes. The lightweight division making noise as well, its good to see the attention turning to this calibre of fighters. Lots of fights to be made and plenty of time, we’ve got it good.
Who would you like to see either fighter face in their new weight class? Let us know in the comments!
