BENAVIDEZ VS PLANT FIGHT PREVIEW
In a fascinating clash of styles, it’s the destructive puncher Benavidez who aims to carry on his rampant run against the more refined technical boxer Plant.
The latter will enter the ring this weekend on the back of a Knockout of the Year victory over former rival Anthony Dirrell last October, putting to bed their past differences in devastating fashion.
That win saw ‘Sweet Hands’ bounce back from the first setback of his professional career against Canelo Alvarez in 2021, as he was defiantly stopped inside 11 rounds by the Mexican pound-for-pound star.
Meanwhile, Benavidez is riding a six-fight KO streak since 2019, with his most-recent stoppage success coming over former world champion David Lemieux in May last year.
Ending 23 of his 26 fights early so far, the two-time super-middleweight world champion was previously dubbed ‘The Mexican Monster’ by heavyweight legend Mike Tyson.
That’s the threat that fellow former champion Plant prepares himself for in Vegas, as he attempts to derail the undefeated streak of his long-standing rival and set up a potential rematch with undisputed ruler Canelo down the line.
The highly-awaited match-up between Benavidez and Plant kicks off a busy few months on the fight schedule, as both men look to make a statement and put their ongoing war of words to bed.
Victory in this intriguing PPV showdown will propel the winner on to even more prosperous opportunities in the division, while the man to taste a bitter defeat will face a tough rebuilding process back to the top.
It’s genuine bad blood. It’s two fighters at the peak of their game. It’s a 50-50 battle with substantial consequences. It's exactly how boxing should be.
