Winter Is Coming & the cold wind blows in from The East, that rising storm has a name & it is Dmitry Bivol! Yet another extremely talented fighter emerges from the former Soviet Bloc. Bivol has already been boxing for more than 20 years taking up the sport at just six. When he moved with his family to Moscow at age 11 he continued to pursue the sport. A virtual prodigy, Bivol won two World Championships in the under 17 category twice. In 2008 he won a bronze medal at the AIBA Youth World Championships & he is a two time Russian National Champion. Bivol compiled an amazing amateur record of 265-15 at the highest level of the sport. Known for clean technique and power Bivol punches through the target better than almost any fighter pound of pound in boxing & it’s that crispness that has allowed him as an undersized Light Heavyweight to rack up wins against the veterans of the division. Notable wins include a TKO of Sullivan Barrera & landslide victories over Isaac Chilemba & Joe Smith Jr & Jean Pascal. In just 7 fights Bivol picked up the interim WBA 175 pound title & with several convincing wins was elevated to full champ by the sanctioning organization in 2017. Bivol is contemplating a move down to Super Middleweight where he will not be outsized & with several veterans retiring recently Bivol is ripe to blow up the wide-open weight category.
